7 Tips to Check Social Media Envy

$

Social media is now an integral part of our lives. It has given many the opportunities to put their lives out there. As a result, some people take advantage of it to share anything whether they are celebrities or not.   They post photos of wads of cash, fleets of cars, filtered pictures as well as fits achieved and much more. These contents are consumed by persons who spend hours gliding from Facebook, to Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram to view the posts shared by their favourite celebrities and friends. This can lead to social media envy or jealousy.   To put this perspective, a recent global study on social media jealousy conducted by Kaspersky Lab reveals that nearly 60% of the participants viewed a friend as having a better life than their own simply by seeing that friend’s social media activity, and almost half were upset after viewing photos from a friend’s happy holiday celebration. 16,750 people who are at least 16-years-old from 18 countries participated in the online survey. This is not a pleasant feeling and is one of the shortcomings of social media and if you do not put it in check, it can lead to depression. Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency shares ways to handle or curb it social media jealousy.

Know that you may not be looking at reality

You see a girl on Instagram with all the curves. However, when you eventually meet her, you are utterly disappointed. Social media can make people be whatever they want to be even if they are not. It is a false and fake life. There is a big difference between their social media life and their real life.

Identify and plug triggers

Which picture (s) do you look at that makes you jealous or envious? Identify that person (s) and perhaps block them from your timeline. But the question is how many people do you want to block? Their activities are in your face.

Appreciate yourself

Sometimes it is better to focus on your own blessings and appreciate yourself. This should always be at the back of your mind when the envy or thoughts slowly creep in.

Remember the person’s intent

Sometimes the intent of a post is just to show off. It is bragging! They display the stupendous amount they spend at clubs and their good looking wardrobe. People who are discerning will simply ignore them.

Be genuinely happy for them

There are times you feel that someone is honest in their post and you know they are just sharing what makes them happy. You can drop a nice comment for them. This will give you a wonderful feeling.

Stop the comparison

There is no need to assess or judge yourself based on what you see on social media. Be self-aware so that when the comparison thoughts pop up in your mind, you should kill it immediately. Do not allow it to go viral. If it does, you will just become moody for no justifiable reason.

Take a social media break

This may be very difficult. However, take a break if you cannot deal with the jealousy. Alternatively, cut the hours you spend on travelling from one social media account to another.

5 Reasons You Should Always Sleep on Your Left Side

benefits of sleeping on your left side

Sleep is the ultimate stress reliever. Hence, it is important for you to get at least 8 hours of sleep according to a majority of experts. While sleep duration is extremely important, sleep position is essential as well. The best sleep position is your left side and here are reasons you should henceforth sleep this way.

Aids digestion

The stomach usually sits on the left side of the body. Since this is the case, sleeping on the left allows waste products to freely pass through the intestines to the colon. Lying on the right side makes the digestive process a bit more difficult.

Relieves back pain

One of the worse sleep positions is sleeping on your backside. This can lead to serious back pain. Also, note that sleeping on your stomach results in pressure building up in your back. So, side sleeping on your left is your sure bet to prevent back pain.

Better Night Rest for Pregnant Women

Doctors strongly advise that pregnant women should always sleep on their left side because it helps prevents back pain, relieve pressure from the uterus and liver and ease the distribution of blood to the foetus and other parts of the body.

Combat snoring

For perennial ‘snorers’, you can also try sleeping on your left side to fight or combat those sometimes disturbing and annoying snores. This position opens your airways by keeping your tongue and throat muscles in a neutral position.

Enhances brain performance

According to research, sleeping on the left side helps the brain remove waste from the body thus preventing diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

Pan-Yoruba group calls for Oodua Republic

Following the demand for Biafra and a call by the Arewa youths for the Igbos to vacate the North, a Pan-Yoruba group called O’odua Nationalist Coalition, (ONAC), has called on Yoruba people to prepare for their own sovereign nation, “Oodua” Republic, reports Vanguard.
This was made know in a statement issued by the Yoruba group over the weekend and signed by three of its members; Oluwole Suleimann, Michael Popoola, and Mrs. Aduke Fadahunsi, stressing the need for the creation of Yoruba sovereign nation, Oduduwa Republic.

The group stressed that it became necessary in the face of the lingering problems and conflict built around the national question that has stunted the growth of Nigeria for over a century.

“This conflict has again reared its head, 50 years after a civil war that inflicted pain and misery on the Yoruba people apart from distorting the development plan of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo for the South West,” the group stated.

The group also called on Yoruba people in the territories of the Hausa-Fulani North to be guided by a strong sense of history and the fact that they would not be spared by those who claim to be their hosts. “We advise them to begin to make alternative plans for the inevitable upheaval being promoted by the Fulani oligarchy.

“The North has always been the aggressor because of the region’s loss of power and the unhidden desire to make Nigeria the irreversible extension of the Fulani emirate.

“What we see is violent conflict of civilisations which can only be resolved when each region go her own way. In the bid to keep Nigeria as one country, millions of people have been killed and the lives of children wasted, the future pauperized and the potentials of Yoruba young men and women bottled or chained with fetters of iron.

“Today, we make the historic declaration that Yoruba people are ready for our own Oduduwa Republic. We have watched events these past days. The cloud is getting thicker. The poisonous rain appear ready to fall. It is time for the Yoruba people to be ready to defend our homeland from being seized by local imperial elements and their collaborators. We assert Yoruba self-determination and sovereignty. We shall work for it. We will actualize it,” ONAC said. The groups said the Yoruba people have suffered unprecedented hardship in the form of human and material destruction since 1960 when the country attained independence.

“Our leaders beginning from Chief Obafemi Awolowo were jailed on trumped up charges. 28 leaders of Yoruba were imprisoned unjustly. Chief M.K.O Abiola was murdered. The industrial bases built by Awolowo were destroyed by the military rookies appointed to control the South West region, our culture destroyed and the future of our young people put asunder. Today, many Yoruba people have become scavengers across the world fleeing from a hostile, bloodletting and malicious country that hold no promise of good and abundant life for the long suffering and exhausted population.

The group stated further “We call on Yoruba people all over the world to prepare for a sovereign nation for the people of the South West. We are over 50 million and far more than the population of 140 countries in the world. Yoruba will be the third biggest nation in Africa and about the 28th biggest nation in the world. We are big and knowledgeable enough to be a sovereign nation. We assert the Yoruba self-determination without any further delay.”

“It is time for the Yoruba people to stand for Oodua Republic without any further delay. Yoruba people this time will not support any attack on Self-determination. We shall mobilise the masses and prevent Yoruba people from being used for any attack on the long suffering indigenous peoples of the South East and the South- South” ONAC said the quit notice issued by the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, (AYCF) and the Northern Elders Forum, (NEF) was not against the Igbo alone but also against the Yoruba since Igbo is not written on the forehead of residents in the North.

ONAC concluded: “This is not the first time we have called for Oodua Republic. In April 2015, we organized a massive rally demanding for Oodua Republic. But today, this demand has become even more crucial than any other thing.”

ONAC is made up of 18 Pan Yoruba groups including the Oodua Peoples Congress, (OPC), Oodua Liberation Movement, (OLM), Oodua Republic Coalition, (ORC), Yoruba Revolutionary Congress, (YORC), Oodua Muslim-Christian Dialogue Group, (OMDG), Yoruba Students Nationalist Front, (YOSNF), Oodua Hunters Union, (OHUN) and 11 other groups.

7 Tips to Help First-time Parents Prepare Financially for a Newly Born

Newly Born

Congratulations! In the next few months, your first piccaninny will be in your hands. You will be unable to control your joy and of course, you have thought of different things you will do for your newly born. This is why preparing for a baby takes a lot of work, planning, and energy. For your plans to come to fruition, you need money. So, whether you are a first time parent or planning to have one in the future, Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency, shares ways to financially prepare for a newly born especially if you are having a baby for the first time.

Start saving

Having a baby means that your financial responsibilities are about to double or triple. The best way to cushion the effect or impact of this is to start saving. Do not wait until you see your wife’s protruding belly before you start.

Set Up a Baby Fund

Some banks have packages for customers who want to establish a baby fund. You only need to approach them. Tell them to deduct a certain percentage from your account at the end of the month for your baby fund. If you like, it can be a joint account.

Adjust your budget

A budget is the ultimate way to check your spending. With a new member coming into your family, you have to overhaul your budget to accommodate or reflect the changes. Check your budget again and again and remove non-essential items you do not need. Do this with your better half.

Figure Out Your Income

When you have a baby, it doesn’t mean your income will increase. Will you work more jobs to earn more income? Even if the income is enough, how do you intend to assign the money so that it can go round? Remember that there are other responsibilities besides having your baby.

Review your spending

After you get married, you have to streamline your spending. There is no room for extravagance. Even if this is the case before you had a baby, you have to stop after having a baby. This doesn’t mean you should live below the line.

Keep Your Baby Purchases in Check

There is the tendency that you may want to spend so much on your baby whether they need whatever you are buying or not because you are excited. Do not make this mistake, buy things that are important and essential for their upkeep. Other things can come later.

Do Not Throw a Lavish Christening

We love parties in Nigeria and we love to celebrate everything. If you have to celebrate the christening of your child, it has to be in moderation. There is no need to go all out.

Ronaldo Tax Fraud

The Spanish prosecutor’s office in Madrid on Tuesday have filed a lawsuit against Real Madrid star, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo is being accused of defrauding the Spanish authorities of a whooping €14.7million in taxes between 2011 and 2014.

The prosecutor’s office in a statement said that Ronaldo had knowingly used a “business structure” created in 2010 to hide his income in Spain from his image rights.

The lawsuit is based on a report sent to the prosecutor’s office from Spain’s tax agency AEAT.

This is coming shortly after the Barcelona forward Lionel Messi and his father, Jorge, were sentenced to 21 months in prison for tax fraud of €4m (£3.5m) owed.

False Asset Declaration: Code of Conduct Tribunal Clears Bukola Saraki

Saraki CCT Trial
Senator Bukola Saraki outside the courtroom after being acquitted of false asset declaration.

The Code of Conduct Tribunal in Abuja on Wednesday acquitted the Senate President, Dr. Bulola Saraki, of all the 18 charges of false asset declaration and other related offences preferred against him, reports PUNCH.

The Federal Government had filed an 18-count charge bordering on false assets declaration against Saraki.

The CCT panel led by its chairman Danladi Umar, gave the ruling  stating that Saraki had no case to answer, exonerating him of all the charges on, among other grounds, the failure of the prosecution to obtain Saraki’s statement and make it part of the proof of evidence was fatal to the case.

He described as “absurd” that neither Saraki’s statement nor the report of investigation said to have been carried out was produced before the tribunal.

Umar agreed with the defence team led by Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), that the prosecution’s evidence had been manifestly discredited during cross-examination by the defence.

He added that the evidence adduced by the prosecution led by Mr. Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) was “so unreliable that no reasonable tribunal could convict” based on it.

The court erupted in thunderous jubilation among the lawyers and supporters of the Senate President as soon as the tribunal made the pronouncement exonerating him on Wednesday.

5 Useful Tips for Introverted Entrepreneurs

$
0

Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Warren Buffett and many of the world’s most successful entrepreneurs either are or have admitted that they are, to a large extent, introverts. It is possible for introverts to become great entrepreneurs. Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency, shares 5 useful tips for introverted entrepreneurs.

Have a Recharge Time

Introverts need time to themselves, time away from social interactions and activities, if not they will eventually run out of energy, lose their composure and stop being productive. Many introverts understand this aspect of their personality, and to become a successful entrepreneur it’s important they find time away from it all to be by themselves (or around those they are comfortable with) and just recharge. This can be as simple as taking a 10 to 15 minutes break to yourself during the day, or taking a long weekend to yourself in the long term.

Intentionally Build Relationships

Building relationships isn’t very easy for introverts. It’s easier for them to be the object of relationship building as opposed to them actually being the ones to initiate the process. Unfortunately, you cannot be a successful entrepreneur if you are unable to build good relationships. In this case, your passion for entrepreneurship will have to win and take precedence over your discomfort with building relationships. Being intentional with building relationships (that is, not being emotional about the whole thing) and making yourself reach out to those around you is an easier way to build necessary relationships.

Use Your Strengths Well

Social interactions might be the one major weakness of introverts, but they also have great strengths that are vital to entrepreneurial success. Introverts have great listening skills. In a world where most people speak before they think, introverts naturally do the opposite and listen first before they speak. It is thus easier for them to get needed information to make smart decisions and enhance everything about their business, from sales to marketing. The listening skill is a very valuable tool for successful entrepreneurs.

Learn to Live Outside of Your Comfort Zone

To be a successful introverted entrepreneur, you’ll ultimately learn how to live outside of your comfort zone. This is because virtually every day you will encounter situations and scenarios that will take you out of your comfort zone. But if you’re really passionate about entrepreneurship, you’ll have to make that conscious decision daily to let passion win over comfort.

Delegate or Outsource Tasks You Can’t Handle

In the end, you’re an entrepreneur not a dare devil. You can’t keep living out of your comfort zone, which is why you need time to recharge in the first place. However, you have to be wise and be able to determine the tasks that are just not necessary for you to handle and outsource or delegate these tasks to an individual or group that can handle it better. Have some extroverts around that can handle certain aspects of your business easier than you would, while you can take on the more crucial aspects. You’re an entrepreneur, not a one-man army, and like Bill Gates admitted, a business can’t be managed and operate by an entire group of introverts, some extroverted influence is involved.

7 Things That Shorten the Lifespan of Your PC

$

Computers like other devices have a short lifespan. Your computer gets noisier, slows down, and shows error messages which are signs that something is wrong with your computer. This problem occurs when certain things happen to your computer. In line with this, Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency shares 7 things to avoid if you want your computer to last longer.

Power surges

Power surges may be as a result of lightning strikes or sudden restoration of power. This can be risky as it can damage your computer’s motherboard, lead to data loss and even your charger could explode. It is advisable you use a stabilizer.

Battery drain

This is for those that allow their batteries to run out before they charge it. Just be prepared to perhaps buy another battery if you continue with this habit.

Limited ventilation

Your computer’s fan is not there for fun. And it is no gainsaying that heat is one of the major things that can harm your computer. This will make your system perform like a snail and your battery will quickly run out within minutes. As a rule of thumb, do not block the ventilation.

Software updates

Running an outdated software on your computer will automatically make it slower. This can make you angry that you hit it in a bid to let out your frustration. This can damage your PC. To make it faster, always keep software updated.

Loose cables

Searching and fixing loose cables is one of the easiest ways to make your computer durable. Properly place or fix any external cable that may affect your system. You can start with your charger.

Dust

Allowing dust to pile up in your computer will definitely affect its performance. Dust makes it prone to overheating as it can block the ventilation. When you notice any dust, use a blower to remove the dust.

Physical damage

If your fan is bad or your screen is cracked, you should fix it as soon as possible because if you do not, the damage can affect the overall performance of your system.
