Sam Allardyce has left his position as England manager after just one game in charge, the Football Association has confirmed.

The news came on Tuesday evening after a day of talks between Allardyce and his FA bosses over allegations he discussed how to circumvent rules on player transfers while speaking to undercover Daily Telegraph reporters.

The 61-year-old was appointed to his dream job only 67 days ago and departs by mutual agreement with just one match on his record, this month’s World Cup qualifying win in Slovakia.

England U21 manager Gareth Southgate has been appointed interim boss for the next four matches, starting with next month’s World Cup Qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia.

An FA statement read in full: “The FA can confirm that Sam Allardyce has left his position as England manager. “Allardyce’s conduct, as reported today, was inappropriate of the England manager. He accepts he made a significant error of judgement and has apologised. However, due to the serious nature of his actions, The FA and Allardyce have mutually agreed to terminate his contract with immediate effect.

“This is not a decision that was taken lightly but The FA’s priority is to protect the wider interests of the game and maintain the highest standards of conduct in football. The manager of the England men’s senior team is a position which must demonstrate strong leadership and show respect for the integrity of the game at all times.

“The FA wishes Sam well in the future”. Video footage released by the Telegraph also appeared to show Allardyce mocking predecessor Roy Hodgson, calling Prince Harry “a very naughty boy” and accusing the FA of being “all about making money”. And among the other allegations was that Allardyce negotiated in principle a deal to travel to the Far East as a paid ambassador for the fictitious businessmen.

The FA’s immediate response was to call for “the full facts”, and Allardyce travelled to London on Tuesday to hold talks with chairman Greg Clarke and chief executive Martin Glenn. Clarke said: “I went into the meeting with an open mind. For a guy who’s given so much to English football and has really put his back into England manager, he deserved a fair hearing. He didn’t deserve prejudging.

Glenn spoke of “a very difficult 24 hours” and said: “Sam has agreed that his behaviour has been inappropriate and frankly not what is expected of an England manager.”

The ruling All Progressives Congress, have been charged to promote the rule of law and due process in the conduct of its affairs, by a former Vice President and chieftain of the party, Atiku Abubakar ,noting that they were germane to its unity and stability.
He gave the charge in a statement on Wednesday against the background of the festering crisis trailing the conduct of the APC gubernatorial primary in Ondo State.
Recall, that a former governor of Lagos State and national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu, had on Sunday demanded the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, on the ground of favouring an aspirant in the gubernatorial primaries in Ondo State and forcing his choice by use of trick.
Mr. Tinubu, who accused the national chairman for perpetrating injustice, said the development showed that there was an evil and regressive force within the APC using Mr. Oyegun to upset the stability of the party’s democratic and progressive tenets.
Despite protest by other aspirants and some members of the party’s national working committee, the name of a former National President of the Nigeria Bar Association, Rotimi Akeredolu, was forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission, as the APC candidate in the November election.
Mr. Abubakar said it was imperative for the national leadership of the party to live by the rules of internal democracy and respect for democratic consensus, warning that “you cannot break your own rules without creating problems.”
He argued that the party was supposed to be an impartial entity in the arbitration of crisis amongst its members in any given election.
He further stated that “It was wrong for the APC to have set aside a resolution it had reached aimed at resolving the crisis in our party in Ondo State. It is a recipe for acrimony and division,”.
Mr. Atiku, however urged the leadership of the party to always be guided by respect for the rules, fairness, equity, neutrality and respect for democratic consensus.

Godwin Obaseki of All Progressives Congress (APC)’s candidate for the Edo State Gubernatorial Election, has been declared winner of the poll.

According to Channels Television reports, the returning officer for the election, Professor Kayode Soremilekun, announced the results with Obaseki winning with 319,483 votes, leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Osagie Ize-Iyamu polling the second highest number of votes with 253,173.

Others are: AA – 155; ACD – 1,350; ACPN – 3,184; APGA – 876; CPP – 226; ID – 99; KOWA – 75; LP – 182; NPPP – 125; NCP – 294; NNPP – 118; PDC – 1,289; PPA – 855; PPN – 112; SDP – 72; UPP – 431; YDP – 200.

The reports also have it that the PDP agent expressed strong reservation, referring to the result as a disappointment and refused to sign the final result sheet.

Also, before the announcement of the results, some protesters who had gathered at the INEC office alleged that the results have been altered by the electoral commission, saying that the number of votes from their respective polling units differ from what was being announced.

One of the biggest dinosaur footprints ever recorded has been unearthed in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia, researchers said Friday, offering a fresh clue about the giant creatures that roamed the earth millions of years ago.

A joint Mongolian-Japanese expedition found the giant print, which measures 106 centimetres (42 inches) long and 77 centimetres wide. One of several footprints discovered in the vast Mongolian desert, the huge fossil was discovered last month in a geologic layer formed between 70 million and 90 million years ago, researchers said.

It was naturally cast, as sand flowed into dents that had been left by the creature stomping on the once muddy ground. The footprint is believed to have belonged to Titanosaur, a long-necked dinosaur, and could have been more than 30 metres long and 20 meters tall, according researchers.

“This is a very rare discovery as it’s a well-preserved fossil footprint that is more than a metre long with imprints of its claws,” said a statement issued by Okayama University of Science.

This discovery came as a result of a long term partnership the Mongolian Academy of Science enjoys with a Japanese university, Okayama University of Science in scientific research.

Super Eagles coach has agreed with the Nigeria Football Federation to play the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Algeria November 7 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Recall that Rohr had complained about the poor state of the pitch after the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium and vowed not to return unless there was an improvement on it.

“We will play our game against the team of Algeria in Uyo. This is a stadium that offers all the amenities and is comparable to European stages. Against Tanzania, the players were comfortable. The only problem was that the pitch was a bit worn out, but by our game against the Algerian team, the grass will be in a very good condition,” said Rohr.

Rohr disclosed this after a meeting with the Nigerian Football Federation officials. He stated that Uyo was the choice of the NFF for the game and has been assured perfect pitch condition before the Algeria game. “It’s a choice. I have given my opinion on this city and the officials told me that the match will take place in Uyo.”

The Super Eagles will play their first match of the qualification games October 9 against the Chipolopolo of Zambia. To be in good position to reach Russia 2018,they need a win in their first two games.

Aston Villa have sacked manager Roberto Di Matteo after just one win from their opening 12 matches this season.

Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Preston left Villa 19th in the Championship despite a summer of spending under new owner Tony Xia following relegation.

Di Matteo was brought in as the permanent successor to Remi Garde, but the Italian’s reign is over after just four months. Steve Clarke will take charge until a new manager is appointed.

A club statement read: “Aston Villa Football Club has today parted company with manager Roberto Di Matteo.

“The Club decided to act following a run of disappointing results which has the left the team occupying 19th position in the Championship. The Club would like to place on record its appreciation to Roberto for all his efforts in helping rebuild the squad and wish him well for the future.”

Xia also posted his reaction on Twitter, saying: “A difficult decision for the board. But rather sooner than later we’d make the decision.  Di Matteo twice broke the Championship record for a transfer fee in the summer window, bringing in Ross McCormack for an initial £12m and then paying Bristol City £15m for Jonathan Kodjia.

The two forwards have scored just three times between them as Villa – among the pre-season favourites for promotion – have drawn seven of their 11 Championship games.

As recently as this weekend Di Matteo claimed to have the club’s backing, saying: “It’s normal when results are not as expected that everybody questions – it’s part of the job – but I’ve had total support from the club.”

Rangers International of Enugu thrashed El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri to end an incredible season in grand style notching a historic seventh Nigeria Professional Football League title after 32 years.

The Flying Antelopes needed a point to put the title beyond the reach of closest rivals, Rivers United but visiting El-Kanemi proved an easy proposition for the Rangers who took a third minute lead and completed a 4-0 rout by full-time.

Rivers United hence settled for second place after securing a 2-1 away win at Uyo to Akwa United. Despite the fightback by the hosts following Frederick Oboamate’s opener, Guy Kuemian made the other CAF Champions League slot safe when he got the winner for the visitors in the 78^th minute.

Wikki Tourists snuffed out Sunshine Stars’ hopes of a Continental place with a 2-0 win, finally latching onto a prize that eluded them last season. With those results securing the top slots, the other concern was what happened at the bottom of the table.

Heartland, Warri Wolves, MFM and Abia Warriors all came into the Matchday unsure of where they would ply their trade next season. Abia Warriors needed a point to be sure of safety and a 2-1 win over Shooting Stars took care of business, guaranteeing top flight football for another season for the Umuahia-based side.

MFM were in mulkier waters. They needed a win against FC Ifeanyiubah who themselves needed a win for a place in the continent while hoping that Heartland fail to beat Plateau United in Jos. Stanley Okorom’s effort put MFM ahead in Lagos and despite being reduced to ten men and conceding a late penalty, MFM held on to secure a 1-0 win that means they escape the drop.

It was depressing in Warri as Wolves’ 1-0 win over relegated Ikorodu United could not prevent their drop into the lower cadre.

Heartland needed three points away in Jos to be safe and looked sure to do it when Roland Koffi fired them ahead in the first half. But Bright Silas restored parity just after the interval. The game would be abandoned by the visitors with about ten minutes’ left on the clock and the league managers will decide what becomes of the result.

In the two fixtures of low significance, Kano Pillars had a share of the spoils with visiting Niger Tornadoes. Adamu Mohammed had nodded the Sai Masu Gida in front but Ifeanyi Okoye fetched Tornadoes a first away point of the season with just a quarter of an hour left to play.
