The lawmaker made the call through a motion on matter of urgent public importance,he moved on the floor of the House on “Urgent Need for Security Agencies to Ensure the Release of Honourable Justice Chioma Nwosu and Increase Security and Protection Around Judicial Officers Across Nigeria” .

Leading the debate, he said that judicial officers are becoming preys in the hands of criminals and the security of their lives and that of their families are under serious threat.

“Mr. Speaker, while the ordinary citizen of Nigeria were crying on the issue of kidnapping, we felt at certain point that those of us privilege ,were immune from what was going to happen, but right now, nobody is exempted and nobody is safe.

“Mr. Speaker, while we asking for the protection for judicial officers,we equally recognize the fact that this are the challenges being faced by the ordinary citizen in one way or the other.

“So our position is that,on this particular matter Sir,the judicial officers are ministers in the temple of Justice and they should be provided an environment where they discharge their responsibilities without fear or favour or any form of intimidation.

“The two incidents we have referred to,the kidnap of Justice Dogo of the Federal High Court and Hon. Justice Chioma Nwuso of the court of Appeal, is tending to intimate and instill fear in the minds of those who are saddled with the responsibilities of interpreting our laws” Luke said

The lawmaker had two weeks ago while condemning the abduction of Honourable Justice Abdul Dogo of Federal High Court , Akure Division who was kidnapped on his way to discharge his official ,to move the motion on the matter and to ensure security agencies expedited action towards Hon. Justice Nwosu’s release.

He appealed to his colleagues to support the motion, and also reminded the House that the 9th House of representatives on resumption promised to stand and ensure the security of lives and property of Nigerians.

“Mr. Speaker Sir, at the resumption of this House Sir,you said this house will stand to ensure the security of lives and property of Nigerians, whether they are common men or those in previlege position ,this is a time that we must arise ,I want to appeal to you my colleagues, that we must rise to condemn in totality the situations that we have found ourselves ,where our judicial officers are becoming preys to kidnappers everyday” Luke

The Akwa Ibom Lawmaker urged the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to ensure the immediate release of Hon. Justice Chioma Nwosu, apprehend and prosecute the kidnappers.

The motion received the support of other members of the House, who spoke strongly against the recurrent act that is threatening the Judiciary and it ability to dispense justice without fear or favour. The motion was voted on, adopted and referred to the relevant committees of the house.

Iroko TV founder Jason Njoku and his wife Mary, are not leaving their parenting to chance despite their busy schedule and many travels.

To help bridge the gap and make up for their absence at home, the couple has developed a clear set and simple rule to help them communicate with their kids.

Jason Njoku in a Tweet shared the tip he calls a #Lifehack, saying that wherever he or his wife are between 7-8 am, 3-5 pm and 7-8 pm, they stop what they’re doing and check-in with a video call with the kids.  “I walk out of meetings for these calls. Priority #1”, Jason adds.

As a parent or soon-to-be parent, what do you think about this rule? Would you emulate this tip by this couple? Is technology helping parents catch up with lost time due to work?

Udom-Emmanuel-Win-Tribunal-Hypestationng

By Morgan Ekanem /Borono Bassey/Emmanuel Sam

The Court of Appeal sitting in Calabar today, November 13, 2019, has affirmed the victory of Governor Udom Emmanuel of the PDP in the March 9 gubernatorial elections in Akwa Ibom State.

The Appeal was filed against the judgement of the Tribunal delivered on September 5, 2019, at Uyo, which dismissed Mr Ekere‘s Petition for wanting in merit.  The Tribunal had held that the petitioner could not lead credible evidence to prove his claims that the elections were not conducted in substantial compliance with the Electoral Act.

Delivering judgement in the Appeal filed by Mr Nsima Ekere, the Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) challenging the re-election of His Excellency, Mr Udom Emmanuel in the March 9, 2019, Gubernatorial Elections, the five-man panel gave her judgement on all the issues set out by parties in the appeal.

The Appellate Court first affirmed the decision of the Tribunal rejecting a series of documents filed by the Petitioner at the Tribunal and held that the reasoning of the Tribunal were unassailable citing that the documents which were all public documents and therefore could not be admissible if there were not properly brought as Certified True Copies of the public documents sought to be tendered.

Furthermore, on whether the Tribunal was right in holding that the Petitioner/Appellant did not lead credible evidence to prove their case, the Court of Appeal affirmed the Tribunal’s judgement and upheld the Tribunal’s findings on evidence. The Appellate Court noted that out of the results of twenty-one (21) Local Government Areas challenged, the Petitioner did not lead any evidence in prove of their case in eight (8) and led very scanty evidence which on cross-examination were rendered very impotent in the other Local Governments were they made any effort to prove their claims. The court again held that the decision of the Tribunal was unassailable on that score and therefore affirmed the same.

The court also agreed with the Lower Tribunal for not relying on documents dumped on the Tribunal by the Petitioners/Appellants without being linked by them to any of the issues raised and canvassed by the petitioner.

The court thereupon affirmed the Victory of His Excellency, Mr Udom Emmanuel as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State from the gubernatorial elections held on March 9, 2019, and awarded the cost of 500,000 Naira in favour of the First Respondent to be paid by the Appellants.

The lead judgement was affirmed by all the other justices of the Court of Appeal.

Saturdays we all know are usually for weddings and the past weekend saw one of the exciting interracial weddings in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

It was the traditional wedding ceremony between two love birds from different racial backgrounds; the bride, Nkpoikanke Bassey Archibong from Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria and Marc Shand Tough of Aberdeen, Scotland.

It was indeed a colourful outing held at the prestigious Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort, Uyo which played host to lots of stylish guests. See the below by pictures by Sykes Photography!
