Billboard reports  has it that Rapper Kanye West has hit the top of the U.S. albums chart with his new full-length ye. The album sold 208,000 album equivalent units, with 85,000 of those stemming from traditional album sales and 120,000 from streaming.

Ye is Kanye’s eighth solo full-length  including his joint Watch the Throne album with JAY-Z, ye is Kanye’s eighth in a row to go number one. The new record features appearances and contributions from artists including Nicki Minaj, Kid Cudi, and more.

West released “Ye” after going silent for a year due to mental health issues. He returned by making characteristic waves on social media, notably by becoming a rare African American celebrity to voice support for President Donald Trump.

With rhymes about his latest controversies, a throwback sound of soul samples and at only seven tracks, “Ye” was less ambitious than many works by West, who had become known for his sprawling opuses.

West has reached number one with all of his studio albums except his debut, 2004’s “The College Dropout,” and also topped the chart with a collaborative album with Jay-Z, “Watch the Throne,” from 2011.

West returned Friday with yet another seven-track album, “Kids See Ghosts,” a collaboration with his protege Kid Cudi.

MURIC drops Law suit Against Falz over Video ‘This Is Nigeria’

Falz-This-is-Nigeria

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has rescinded in its decision to establish a court case before Folarin Falana, better known as Falz, to court over his musical video, ‘This is Nigeria’.

It will be recalled that the Muslim group had given Falz seven days to withdraw the video or risk being sued for the “offensive” scenes in the video.

However, in a statement on Sunday by its Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, MURIC said its new decision was not a U-turn but a sudden change in tactics. It said the new line of action would have a more enduring impact not only on Falz but the entire entertainment industry.

It will also make the agencies sit up to their responsibilities and inject a huge dose of discipline in the music and film industries in general.

“Although he stopped short of apologizing, the artiste has tried to clear himself in published interviews made available to us. According to him, he did not intend to ridicule Muslims. He said his intention was to call attention to the plight of the Chibok girls although we think he has done that the wrong way.

A scene in the video in which the ‘Chibok girls’ are in pensive mood would have been more representative of the reality on ground because kidnapped girls cannot be dancing like people under the influence of drugs. They are in captivity and so they have no cause under the sun for jubilating.

Again, the Fulani (Muslims) were painted as killers while Benue militia (Christians) who rustle Fulani cattles and slaughter their wives and children were not featured. This is grossly unfair. Falz should find a way of balancing his video. The kidnappers of the South East (also Christians) were spared while the oil saboteurs of the Niger Delta (Christians too) were ignored. Falz’s video is loaded with Islamophobia. That video should be titled ‘This is not Nigeria’. It is Islam-bashing. Nigeria’s video regulatory agency should therefore ban the video or ask the artist to edit it properly.

The group therefore called for action from government agencies who are supposed to do their jobs in the first place. Instead of creating media tension and granting cheap popularity, this matter will now be handled by professionals who know what to do”. He stated.

World heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder  has agreed to fight Britain’s Anthony Joshua in the UK.

The American, 32, holds the WBC title and wants a unification bout with Joshua, the WBA, IBF and WBO champion.

He tweeted: “The $50m offer for him to fight me next in the US is still available. Today I even agreed to their offer to fight Joshua next in the UK.”

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn said he will send the contracts but wonders if Wilder’s claim is “bluster”.

He added: “It’s all come as a bit of a shock that Deontay’s finally come back to us on the offer and seems to accept the terms.

“One thing I can tell you is that by the end of this week Deontay Wilder will have a contract in front of him and we’ll see if he’s real.”

Hearn has previously criticised the Wilder team for appearing to do their business via social media, insisting “deals are made in the boardroom, not on Instagram”.

“If he prefers the fight in the UK, the ball is in their court. It’s up to them to choose,” Wilder added.

Wilder’s manager Shelly Finkel told ESPN they had officially accepted terms to a fight in the UK.

He said: “Deontay sent an email to Joshua [Sunday] night, and I sent one [Monday] to Barry Hearn and Eddie telling them that we officially accept the offer to fight under the terms they gave us and to send us the contract.”

Should Joshua, 28, fight the American next, the winner would become the first heavyweight to hold all four recognised world titles at once.

Russian Alexander Povetkin is the WBA’s mandatory challenger and is close to a deal to fight Joshua, although Joshua could face Wilder first if Povetkin is able to fight the winner.

real-mardrid-hypestationng.jpg

Real Madrid has appointed Spain’s manager Julen Lopetegui as their new manager on a three-year deal.

Zinedine Zidane, who led the club to a record three successive Champions League titles, stepped down in May.

The 51-year-old previously managed Porto for two years, before taking over at the Spanish national team in July 2016.

A former goalkeeper, Lopetegui made one senior appearance for Real Madrid but played 107 matches for Logrones.

He began his coaching career in 2003 as the assistant manager to Spain’s Under-17 team. He led the under-19 and under-21 sides to European titles before moving to Porto.

Lopetegui will take up the position after the World Cup, which begins on 14 June.

Real Madrid finished third in La Liga last season, 17 points behind champions Barcelona.

Spain begins their World Cup campaign against Portugal on Friday.

Spain-Julen-Lopetegui-sacked-hypestationng

Spain  have sacked Julen Lopetegui  just two days before their first World Cup match despite the late efforts of senior players.

President Luis Rubiales revealed the decision after a dramatic morning when a press conference was called for 9.30am and then delayed over an hour and a half.

He said: “We have been forced to dispense with the national coach, we wish him the best of luck, what the Spanish gets, will have to do with the work he has developed.

We have to work on a series of decisions that come two days before the beginning of Russia 2018. There is a lot to do.

I do not feel betrayed, Lopetegui, while he has been with us, has done an impeccable job, another is how this has been done, without knowledge of the federation.

We will touch the staff as little as possible, as soon as we have something to communicate, we will do it.”

Spain’s World Cup campaign is now in chaos with their first game against Portugal on Friday.

Trump and Kim Sign Agreement to denuclearize of Korean Peninsula

trump-kim-hypestationng

United States President Donald Trump and North Korea Leader Kim Jong Un yesterday signed an agreement after talks in Singapore which marked the first time a sitting U.S. president had met a North Korean leader.

The two leaders, who in 2017 exchanged threats of war with one another agreed to the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula in a joint agreement, with the U.S. promising to provide security guarantees to North Korea in return.

A joint statement signed at the end of the summit, gave few details on how either goal would be achieved but Trump flushed out some details at a news conference.

“President Trump committed to provide security guarantees to the DPRK and Chairman Kim Jong Un reaffirmed his firm and unwavering commitment to complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula,” they said.

Trump also added that he expects the denuclearisation process to start “very, very quickly”. U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and North Korean officials would hold follow-up negotiations “at the earliest possible date”, the statement said.

Trump told the news conference that the process would be verified, and that the verification will involve having a lot of people in North Korea.

He also said Kim had told him North Korea was destroying a major engine-testing site used for missiles, but maintained international sanctions on Pyongyang would stay in place for now.

Trump said joint military exercises with South Korea would be halted. He said the move would save Washington a tremendous amount of money and would not be revived “unless and until we see the future negotiation is not going along like it should”.

“Some things were agreed and not reflected in the agreement,” Trump said

Kim earlier said the two leaders had a historic meeting “and decided to leave the past behind. The world will see a major change.”

During a post-lunch stroll through the gardens of the Singapore hotel where the summit was held, Trump said the meeting had gone “better than anybody could have expected”.

Kim stood silently alongside, but the North Korean leader had earlier described their summit as “a good prelude to peace”.

Both men walked to Trump’s bullet-proof limousine, nicknamed “The Beast”, and looked in at the rear seat, with Trump apparently showing Kim something inside.

They then resumed their walk.

They had appeared cautious and serious when they first arrived for the summit at the Capella hotel on Singapore’s Sentosa, a resort island with luxury hotels, a casino, manmade beaches and a Universal Studios theme park.

U.S, Canada,Mexico Wins offer to Host 2026 World cup

2026-fifa-wc-hypestationng

The United States, Mexico and Canada won the right to host the 2026 World Cup after easily beating Morocco in a vote by FIFA member nations on Wednesday.

The joint North American bid received 134 of the 203 votes, while Morocco polled 65 in the ballot at a FIFA Congress held in Moscow on the eve of the 2018 World Cup.

Global football’s showpiece event will return to the North American continent for the first time since 1994 when the United States hosted the tournament.

Bid leader Carlos Cordeiro said his team was humbled by the trust our colleagues in the FIFA family have put in our bid and his tournament had an opportunity to put football on a new and sustainable path for generations to come.

It will be the first World Cup to be expanded to 48 teams, posing an enormous logistical challenge for the hosts.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino was believed to have strongly backed the North American bid behind the scenes because the trio of countries involved backed him in 2016 when he took over after the corruption-tainted reign of Sepp Blatter.

Delegates had been faced with a clear choice in the 2026 vote.

FIFA inspectors classified the north African nation’s stadiums, accommodation and transport as high risk, awarding it just 2.7 out of five in an evaluation report, with concerns raised over several critical aspects.

They warned, “the amount of new infrastructure required for the Morocco 2026 bid to become reality cannot be overstated”.

The report made the US-Canada-Mexico bid the clear favourite after rating it four out of five, and Morocco was not able to bridge the gap.

The 1994 World Cup in the United States set an attendance record that still stands, with nearly 3.6 million spectators for only 52 matches.

That suggests that North American bid leaders’ promises to deliver a record $11 billion profit for the 2026 tournament are feasible.

The North American bid had feared it could lose out if the FIFA vote became a referendum on the popularity of US President Donald Trump.

Trump had tweeted threats that if countries did not support the North American bid, they could not expect US support on other issues.

That prompted Cordeiro to urge FIFA members ahead of the vote to make their decision on the “merits” of the bid, “not geopolitics”.

The decision will be a shot in the arm for football, or soccer, in the US, after the national team failed to qualify for the 2018 finals in a huge setback for the game there.

Football-crazy Mexico hosted in 1970 and in 1986, the tournament remembered for Diego Maradona’s “Hand of God” goal.

The vote result was a bitter blow for Morocco after a fifth failure to win the right to host the World Cup. In 2010 it lost out to South Africa as the African continent hosted for the first time.

The US was defeated by Qatar in 2022 in a vote now tarnished by corruption allegations that spelled the beginning of the end of the once all-powerful FIFA president Blatter.

It prompted an overhaul of the rules. Whereas previously the 24 members of the FIFA Executive Committee used to determine World Cup races, the host is now decided by a vote of individual FIFA member nations.

Morocco bid leader Hicham El Amrani argued its 12 host cities are “very close to each other, with for example Casablanca a maximum 500 kilometres (310 miles) from another venue” compared to the vast distances involved in North America.

The Moroccan bid had enlisted the support of the British communications agency that helped London and Paris land the 2012 and 2024 Olympics.

France, in particular, lobbied behind the scenes for French-speaking Morocco and the bid had the support of most African nations.

‘It is not possible to honour MKO Abiola in one breadth and admire his tormentor in another breadth’-Soyinka to Buhari

Prof. Wole Soyinka and President Buhari

Professor Wole Soyinka yesterday asked President Muhammadu Buhari to stop showing loyalty to the supposed tormentor of late MKO Abiola.

Professor Soyinka gave the advice in his speech at Abuja, at an event to honour Abiola the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993, presidential election.

Although he didn’t mention any name, most Nigerians believe Soyinka was referring to the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha (retd.), who detained Abiola for years until his death in 1998 when he attempted to reclaim his mandate as president.

He said, “l will like to make a request. Mr President, since we are honouring heroes of democracy today, l will like to request that you manage to stop creating confusion in the minds of Nigerians. It is not possible to honour MKO Abiola in one breadth and admire his tormentor in another breadth.”

Earlier, at the ceremony, President Buhari formally conferred a posthumous national honour of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) on Abiola, the highest award in the land.

He had also honoured Abiola’s running mate in the election, Ambassador Baba Gana Kingibe, and late respected human rights activist, Gani Fawahinmi, with the national award of Grand Commander of the Niger (GCON).

The President had also tendered an apology to the Abiola family and others who lost their loved ones to the June 12 struggle.

On his part, Professor Soyinka noted that while he accepts President’s Buhari’s apology on behalf of Nigerians, he should stop confusing the people about his loyalty.

He said, “Most of what l wanted to say has been actually knocked off my mouth by one singular gesture the presidential apology. It is a dimension which l did not expect from today’s ceremony.”

“Loyalty is all very well but loyalty can become perverse if that loyalty is retained to an individual who if he were alive today would be before the International Court of Crimes against humanity,” the Nobel laureate added.

He further accused the said tormentor of breaking the laws of the country and international laws, as well as committing crimes against humanity.

Soyinka recalled a private conversation he once had with President Buhari during which he raised the issue of honouring “a notorious corrupt ruler” by one of the most important avenues (major roads) in the nation’s capital.

He stated that the response he got from the President was not too satisfactory, stressing that the martyrs of the June 12 struggle and Nigeria’s philanthropists should be honoured in place of corrupt persons.

In this regard, the professor asked the government to “Inaugurate our Hall of Shame, so that as we have our Hall of Heroes, on the one hand, we can also have our Hall of Shame as a lesson to the future generation.”

He added: “l do not agree that this is closure to the events of June 12.

“There are far too many traumatised individuals walking around the streets, pauperised individuals as a result of the policies and attitudes of one of the most brutal dictators, in fact, the most brutal dictator that this country has ever known.”

Laptops with 128GB of RAM will be arriving soon. Today, Lenovo announced its ThinkPad P52, which, along with that massive amount of memory, also features up to 6TB of storage, up to a 4K, 15.6-inch display, an eighth-gen Intel hexacore processor, and a Nvidia Quadro P3200 graphics card.

The ThinkPad also includes two Thunderbolt three ports, HDMI 2.0, a mini DisplayPort, three USB Type-A ports, a headphone jack, and an Ethernet port. It is likely going to try to compete with Dell’s new 128GB-compatible workstation laptops.

The Dell Precision 7530 and Precision 7730 also feature 4K displays and compatibility with a Quadro and AMD Radeon WX graphics cards. All these laptops are VR-ready, of course.

Both PCs seem to be enabled through Samsung’s newest memory modules that allow laptop makers to increase capacity and speed without consuming all the power. The days of laptops topping out at 16GB of RAM might be nearing an end.

Russia 2018: Host Country Demolishes Saudi Arabia in World Cup Opener

Russia-2018-hypestationng

Russia thoroughly thrashed Saudi Arabia, 5-0, in the opening game of its home World Cup.

Yuri Gazinsky scored Russia’s first goal 12 minutes into the game via a header, and afterward Saudi Arabia could offer little resistance.

Russia’s second, third and fourth goals were all by substitutes: one by Artem Dzyuba and two by Denis Cheryshev and in injury time, Aleksandr Golovin got a fifth goal on a free kick, past an exhausted  Saudi defense.

Saudi Arabia, a team whose players are virtually all based in their obscure home league, offered an air of mystery. But that was before the game. It became clear very quickly that they were no match for a Russian team that itself has not been a worldbeater in recent years.

Gazinsky’s header foiled the Saudi strategy to work the counterattack, and the team seldom got the ball even deep into Russia’s territory after that. Russia itself took over the counterattacking and found the goal at its mercy time and time again.

More worrisome to Russia was an apparent hamstring injury to midfielder Alan Dzagoev, but that turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it paved the way for  Cheryshev, who eventually scored a brace.

Even at halftime, the Saudis looked broken, and it did not get better. Dzyuba scored on another header,  just after entering the game, then Cheryshev added his second in the 90th minute.

If that late goal seemed unfair to the Saudis, it got worse a moment later when Goliovin added No. 5 on a free kick in stoppage time. It was the perfect start for the host nation

As it stands, if Saudi Arabia manage  even a 2-0 loss, in its remaining games, it will seem like an impressive accomplishment.

Egyptian Forward, Mohamed Salah

Egypt forward Mohamed Salah is “almost 100%” certain to play in Friday’s World Cup opener against Uruguay in Yekaterinburg, says boss Hector Cuper.

Salah, 25, has not played since injuring shoulder ligaments during Liverpool’s Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid on 26 May.

“I can almost assure you 100% he will play, save unforeseen circumstances at the very last minute,” said Cuper.

“He could become the top goalscorer here and one of the greatest players.”

Cuper said Salah was “doing very well” and had recovered “very, very quickly”.

He added: “We’re trying to make him feel confident. The doctors are giving him the option to play or not, but I know Salah very well and I’m sure he’s not afraid, he’s not fearful.”
