Diogo Dalot, who has made seven first-team appearances for FC Porto, has signed a five-year contract after the Red Devils agreed to pay £19m for him.

Dalot has represented Portugal from under-15 to under-21 level and made his Porto debut in October.

Diogo Dalot

“The chance of coming to the biggest club in the world is something I just couldn’t turn down,” said Dalot.

The 19-year-old Portuguese came through the youth ranks at Porto and played in a 0-0 draw against Liverpool in the Champions League last 16 in March.

He is expected to provide competition for Manchester United captain Antonio Valencia.

“In his age group, he is the best full-back in Europe,” said Mourinho.

“He is an extremely talented young defender with all the qualities to quickly become a great player for this club.

“He has all the attributes that a full-back needs: physicality, tactical intelligence and technical quality, combined with a Porto academy mentality which prepares players for the maturity they need at the professional level.”

Mourinho is determined to strengthen his defence for what he hopes will be a far closer Premier League battle with champions Manchester City next term.

United announced on Tuesday that they have agreed on a deal for Shakhtar Donetsk’s Brazil midfielder Fred, for a reported £47m.

Akwa Ibom Youth Development Fund Bill: Civil Society Groups demand Audience with Governor

Over 53 NGO’s and civil society organizations under the auspices of the Youth Advocacy Cluster – YAC, is continuing its campaign for the call for public hearing of the Akwa Ibom Ibom Youth Development Fund – #AKYDFBill  sponsored by the Chief Whip of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Bassey, member representing Ini State Constituency

The advocacy campaign started in October 2015, as the bill passed second reading on 27th April, 2017 and was moved to the committee stage under two committees; Committee on Youths, Security and Sports headed by Rt. Hon. Victor Udofia, member representing Ikono State Constituency and Committee on Economic Planning and Development headed by Rt. Hon. (Sir) Udo Kerian, member representing Oruk Anam State Constituency. This was to be later followed by the Public Hearing of the Bill before being passed into law.

Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months, and many months have passed making it over one year and the Public Hearing of the Bill is not in sight, despite promises made.

The group, Youth Advocacy Cluster in a renewed effort for the passage of the Youth-friendly/Youth-centric bill, is embarking on a new campaign tagged ‘Our Dear Governor Speak With Us’. This is aimed at having an audience with the executive governor of the State, His Excellency Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel. This is to formally introduce the AKYDF Bill to him for a better articulation and outline its benefits to youth and the State in general.

AKYDF Bill is a sustainable plan for youth development in Akwa Ibom State. It also aims at improving youth economic development, attract investors/donor supports, stimulate growth and increase State Government’s revenue base.

It can also be recalled that the Lagos State Government had passed a similar bill into law in 2016 known as the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund with the sum of N25bn was earmarked for four years, targeting to impact 100,000 entrepreneurs by 2019.

This has resulted in the influx of funds from donor agencies and corporate organizations such as UNDP, leaving the funds earlier provided by the government unused.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has approved 22 companies to become prepaid meter providers in Nigeria. This number was chosen from a pool of interested applicants for the Meter Asset Provider (MAP).

The head of Public Affairs NERC, Usman Arabi said the approved firms have been issued certificates of ‘No Objection’ to participate in the meter procurement process.

“MAP Regulation is intended to facilitate closure of the wide metering gap in the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) within three years. The ‘No Objection’ is to qualify to intend investors to participate in the meter procurement process in NESI,” he said.

The process is expected to help the 11 electricity distribution companies in Nigeria Bridge metering gaps in their networks and also reduce or end estimated electricity bills.

According to NERC, implementation of the MAP regulation started from April 3, 2018, when it signed off on it.

The MAP regulation mandates Electricity Distribution Companies to engage meter assets providers who fund purchase, installation and replacement of meters to meet metering obligations to their customers.

How to Prevent Leg Cramps During a Long Flight

$

Flying might be the gateway to a great holiday, but for some it can be a torture because of the leg cramps they suffer during their flight especially if it is a long one. This can actually ruin your flight and makes you very uncomfortable. Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency shares ways to prevent leg cramps during a long flight if you were to experience it.

Move your toes

Keeping your feet and ankles moving while sitting for long periods will encourage regular blood flow. Part of the problem of sitting for a long time is that gravity encourages blood to pull in your feet and ankles. Without fresh blood being delivered to your legs, they become swollen and painful. Moving your feet and legs about prevents the blood from collecting in this way.

Be fashion conscious

The trendiest outfit for a flight is a cool loose-fitting clothing, and flat shoes. You will get through security quickly than your high-heeled wearing companions while loose-fitting clothes do not restrict blood circulation.

Watch your position

You know that long-haul flights can be boring and uncomfortable. However, trying to ease your discomfort by crossing your legs or curling up in your seat is not always the best plan. This has the same effect as wearing tight clothing. Blood flow is restricted, encouraging fluid to build up in your legs, rather than circulate towards your heart.

Choose your seat wisely

You can’t choose whether or not you will experience leg cramps on a flight, but you can usually choose where you’ll be seated. Book an aisle seat instead of a window seat, as it will allow you to periodically stretch your legs without disturbing the person next to you.

Exercise before your flight

Exercising a few hours before your flight can help burn off some extra energy and relieve your leg’s restlessness later on. If you don’t have the time for a workout in the busy pre-flight hours, try to stay active right up to the moments before boarding. Walk, stand, stretch, and browse the airport shops to keep your legs busy.

Go for a walk

You should try to get up and stretch your legs at least once or twice during the flight, even if you don’t have that coveted aisle seat.

How to Increase the Lifespan of Your LED TV

$
0
0

LED TVs boast of ground-breaking technology: rich colours, deep blacks and a range of innovative features. So, buying a new LED TV will allow you to enjoy bright and beautiful pictures, but this will come at a high price. When you make the investment, the last thing you want to think about is replacing the set after a few years.  To get value for your money, you need to understand how the LED TV works and to find out ways to increase the TV’s service longevity. Jumia, Nigeria’s no.1 shopping platform, shares tips that will help to ensure that you are making a wise investment.

Adjust brightness

Unless the house is brightly lit, there is no need to keep it at high brightness level. Remember, the hours used to determine TV lifespan are based on average settings. Running a TV at high brightness level can significantly affect its performance since it has to work twice as hard to keep up. Once the LED TV is purchased, adjust the brightness level.

Turn off the TV when no one is around

This probably seems like common sense advice, but many people simply leave the TV running all day as background noise. While they are busy doing other things, the LED TV is busy conducting electricity through its lights. Turning the TV off when nobody is watching is probably the simplest way to increase the longevity of the TV.

Adjust contrast

Contrast is the control on the TV that measures the difference between the brightest and darkest colours. The higher the contrast, the greater the power the TV uses. This, in turn, will decrease the television’s longevity. Hence, set the contrast to standard for the lowest power usage.

Use a voltage regulator

The LED TV is not the only electronic device in the house taking power. Every time a gadget turns on, electricity is used. This causes temporary power dips for other electronics, like the LED TV, which in turn affects the TV’s processes.

Ventilate

The LED TV is going to be using a lot of power in the home. This power produces a lot of heat, which the ventilation system helps to remove. However, many people install their LED TVs without giving them room to breathe. This affects the ventilation system, keeping the television hot. LED TVs do not last long in high heat conditions, as their internal parts start to be affected. Make sure the TV has at least 4 inches to breathe around the ventilation vents.

Akwa Ibom House of Assembly Passes State Job Creation Bill in Law

Onofiok Luke - Speaker AKHA
Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Onofiok Luke, Speaker Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly

by Kufre Okon

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly on Thursday passed into law a bill to create and regulate employment opportunities for indigenes of Akwa Ibom state in corporate organizations operating in the state.

The law recommends the employment and training procedure which will require investors in the State to employ a stipulated percentage of Akwa Ibom youth at various levels of the labour force.

Speaker Onofiok Luke said during Thursday’s plenary that the law reflects the 6th assembly’s commitment to Governor Udom Emmanuel’s job creation ambition.

Luke said that the increasing young population makes it imperative that government takes more definitive steps towards the integration of the youth in the economy.

He said: “government needs to create avenues first, for the employability of young people through good education and skills impartation. Secondly, the public and private sector must architect ways to support entrepreneurship; and lastly, jobs must be created and job marketplace must be regulated in such a way that they amply accommodate the youth.

“I believe that the state government has done greatly in implementing its job creation agenda as seen in programmes such as the Akwa Ibom Employment and Enterprise Scheme, AKEES. The Akwa Ibom state job creation and enforcement law does not only reflect our collective support for His Excellency’s job creation ambition.

“The law will promote a culture of local ownership and participation in all aspects of the state’s productive economic activities. Let me restate for the benefit of our constituents that when signed by the Governor, His Excellency Mr Udom Emmanuel, this law will position our youths and women to be firsthand beneficiaries of existing and prospective job opportunities in our state. It will integrate our youth and women adequately into domestic market and prepare them for foreign opportunities through training in technologies and managerial skills. The law will promote peace and a sense of local ownership while ultimately discouraging youth restiveness especially those often emanating from host communities.”

Speaker Luke reiterated the assembly’s commitment to make laws which will further the “building of an Akwa Ibom project which is nothing short of an educated, united, healthy, and prosperous state under one leadership and under one God.”

He hinted that anytime soon, the 6th assembly will pass the youth development fund bill which is a private member bill initiated by the Youth Alive Foundation. He said the bill will be passed following a synergy between the initiators of the bill and the state executive since the proposed law has a financial proposal.

“We will only pass a bill that will get the assent of the governor while accommodating all interests of the youths at large as well as the initiators of the bill.”

The speaker expressed gratitude to stakeholders and development experts whose inputs he said were resourceful for the drafting of the final report on the bill.

The lead sponsor of the bill, Rt. Hon. Victor Udofia of Ikono State Constituency told journalists that he was motivated to come up with the Akwa Ibom state job enforcement following increasing marginalisation of indigenes by corporate organizations operating in the state.

He said the law “will give the newly created state Ministry of Labour and Productivity the power to exercise their statutory functions especially considering that there are many companies which are not complying with the local content law.”

The Akwa Ibom State Job Creation (Enforcement) Law takes effect from 7th June, 2018.

Akwa Ibom Traders Condemn Commissioner for Lands Destruction of Fruits Market

Akwa Ibom Lands & Urban Renewal Commissioner, Architect Ime Ekpo

Some concern Traders in Akwa Ibom at the weekend raised alarm over what they called, “the spate of destruction by Commissioner for Lands and Urban Renewal, Mr. Ime Ekpo, in the guise of working on the Governor’s directive and the master plan of Ibom Industrial Layout.”

The traders raised the concern, following a tip on the ploy of Mr. Ekpo to take over the construction of the Itam Fruit and Vegetable Market thereby frustration its aims and objectives.

They said they were disturbed to know that the same “Mr. Ime Ekpo, whom his days with Julius Berger as a site engineer, channelled all the waste water from the underground pipeline drainage to the same land earmarked for the construction of the Itam International Fruit and Vegetable Market. He fraudulently absconded with the billions of Naira he made from the dubious project. The same Ime Ekpo is now back to distort the ongoing construction work at the Market, a project we have worked tirelessly to see it completed in the shortest possible time. This is a market that Governor Udom Emmanuel has openly declared to support and finance its construction with complete drainage system.”

According to the traders, Mr. Ekpo’s devilish act will dispossess more than 30,000 traders of their stalls and capitals injected into the construction, adding that “bulk of the money we have injected into the project came from the interest-free loan granted us by the State Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel.”

“We have heard rumours that part of the reasons Mr. Ime Ekpo is using to knock the work off is the fact that the site was strictly meant for industrial layout. And we want to ask, do we not have Timber and building material market there? Do we not have abattoir and livestock market there? Do we not have where the Hausa are selling all sort of vegetable and food items there? Will Ime Ekpo deny the fact that within the two months of the construction work that many people have been empowered? He now wants to end their livelihood due to his insatiable greed, as we are reliably informed that Julius Berger is mounting pressure on him to either stop the work or risk returning their billions he got for the crude work he did for them” they lamented.

“There is tension and threats of breakdown of law and order in the area, consequent upon Mr. Ime Ekpo’s audacity to halt the almost-completed project. We will go to any extent to get him and his cohorts to pay for this, if he succeeds in his ploy,” they warned.

The traders further said “We cannot build our Akwa Ibom on the path of industrialization and self-sufficiency if we continue to allow the likes of Ime Ekpo to occupy positions of responsibility.”

They, therefore, urged the authorities and Governor Udom Emmanuel to resist any intent of dispossessing Akwa Ibom trader who will be bulk of the voters in the 2019 elections of their livelihood.

However, when trying to reach the Special assistant to the Governor on Trade and Market Matters as we learn he is also the state President for the traders; Mr Idorenyin Raphael, his contacts were switched off and no reply for text messages sent likewise that of Mr Ime Ekpo.

Rafael Nadal is for the 11th-time the French Open winner. He achieved the feat yesterday afternoon in Paris when he beat Austrian, Dominic Thiem in a straight three sets of 6-4 6-3 6-2.

During the Grand Slam week, Nadal had to call on the elements to survive the dogged resistance of Diego Schwartzman in the quarterfinal in which he dropped his first set of the tournament.

There was need for the doctor and the physiotherapist in the sixth game of the third set when Nadal felt tightness in his left arm. But that did not stop him from taking the sixth game after some treatment.

The eighth game which was a nervous one and see-saw battle as Thiem battled to stay in the match and Nadal needed Thiem to strike long to take the set 6-2. The king of clay had triumphed once more this time against the anointed prince.

It is now 17 Grand Slam titles for the native Mallorcan and he broke the $100 million prize money barrier with the $2.6 million prize money, third behind Federer and Novak Djokovic on the list.

Patrick Vieira

Former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira has been appointed as the new manager of French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice.

The former Manchester City, Inter Milan and Juventus midfielder had been tipped to replace Arsene Wenger at Arsenal before the appointment of Unai Emery.

“Leaving New York is an incredibly difficult decision for me and my family and one that has not been taken lightly,” said Vieira.

Nice finished eighth in Ligue 1 last season, missing out on a Europa League spot place by one point. Vieira takes over from Lucien Favre, who was appointed Borussia Dortmund coach in May.

Vieira’s Assistant coach Christian Lattanzio, performance coach Kristian Wilson and physical performance coach Matt Cook have also joined Nice.

The 41-year-old retired at Manchester City in 2011 and was named a football development executive with the Premier League club.

In 2015, Vieira attains the position of the head coach of New York City, leaving his role as head coach of Manchester City’s Under-21s.

During his playing career, Vieira rose to prominence during a hugely successful spell at Arsenal from 1996 to 2005, where he eventually became the club captain, and won three Premier League titles – one unbeaten – and three FA Cups.

He also won four straight Italian titles from 2007-2010 before joining Manchester City in January 2010, helping them win the 2011 FA Cup. He has won four FA Cups and eight league titles.

At the international level, Vieira obtained 107 caps for France, and was part of their 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000-winning sides; he was also a member of the French team that finished runners-up in the 2006 World Cup.

Vieira began his coaching career in impressive fashion, guiding New York to back-to-back playoff appearances in his first two seasons.

Gmail for Android now lets you customize your swipe actions

Gmail Swipe-Actions Setting

Google has introduced some new features in the latest update on Android, one of them is the ability to customize what happens when you swipe an email to the left or right.

Previously, swiping an email in your inbox would automatically send it to archive, no matter what. That was useful but not nearly as useful as it could be since swipe gestures can really help you clear out your inbox so long as their actions fit with the way you work.

Gmail’s swipe gestures are not the most customizable in the world, but you have enough options here to make it useful.

In settings, you can now assign the left and right swipe to either archive, delete, mark as read or unread, move, or snooze an email. (Snooze being one of Gmail’s other recent — and overdue — additions.) You can change your gestures by going into settings, then general settings, and then choosing “swipe actions.”

Unfortunately, the feature has not been introduced in the iOS app yet.

“I met a woman yesterday whose husband was killed in front of her with her son watching. It could have been any of you. I can assure you today that this government of Wike has failed.

When I was your governor, you slept and I kept awake. As governor, I chased away criminals to their holes. I know that the reason they are into crime was because they had no money for them.

I knew that for you to stop a man from crime you need to provide an alternative means of livelihood. And to do that, I started building infrastructures. I built schools, hospitals and health centers.

A lot of people were employed in each of the schools and health facilities I built.” He concluded.
