Messi to FIFA: ‘My Sayings were Never Addressed to the Assistant’

Messi FIFA Ban

Lionel Messi has written to FIFA to request that his four-game international ban be overturned, El Mundo Deportivo has reported. Argentina captain Messi was punished for verbally abusing a match official during Argentina’s World Cup qualifier against Chile last week.

He was fined 10,000 Swiss francs ($10,160) by FIFA’s disciplinary panel and is due to miss three more of Argentina’s remaining four World Cup qualifiers, against Uruguay, Peru and Venezuela, after sitting out the defeat to Bolivia on Tuesday.

In the nine-paragraph letter, Messi claimed his words had not been aimed at the official and that he yelled “at the air.” “I vehemently deny having offended assistant referee 1 during the game against Chile, and more so do not believe that my conduct falls under article 57 of FIFA’s disciplinary code,” he wrote.

FIFA considers Messi to have breached the article by displaying “offensive behaviour” towards the assistant. However, the Barcelona player wrote: “Assistant referee 1, of Brazilian nationality, perfectly understood what I was saying, so much so that we spoke amicably and at no time did my words offend or insult the official.

“If any of my words made assistant referee 1 uncomfortable, they were never directed at him but rather to the air and for that, I apologise.” He concluded by writing: “I hereby expressly request for the disciplinary case to be dismissed without any sanction against me.”

Shortly after being elected as the new president of the Argentina Football Association (AFA) on Wednesday, Claudio Tapia told a news conference the federation was working on the appeal. He told a news conference: “We have the best team of lawyers on this issue, trying to reduce Messi’s suspension.”

Earlier in the day, Barcelona released a statement expressing their “surprise and indignation” at the sanction.

The statement read: “The club considers the four-match suspension finally imposed on the Argentine player to be unfair and totally disproportionate. “Finally, FC Barcelona wishes to reiterate its support for Leo Messi, an exemplary player in terms of conduct both on and off the pitch.”

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez said the ban was “totally excessive,” while Marcelo Tinelli, the head of Argentina’s national teams committee, told Ole it was “unjust and arbitrary.”

Former Argentina coach Cesar Luis Menotti told Cadena Ser: “He made a mistake and he should be punished, but not with four games.

“Messi has never done that before, not with the national team or with Barcelona. “I think this is linked with the despair that there is in Argentina’s football and that is transmitted to the players. Messi has led Argentina to three finals and is under pressure to deliver.”

8 Ways to Deal with Lies

$
0

Lies

People lie for different reasons and it hurts more when someone you love and trust lies to you. Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency, shares 8 ways to help you deal with lies and temper its effect on your emotions and perceptions.

Recognize That You Are Being Lied To

Before proceeding to deal with lies, you must first establish that you are being lied to. When you are sure, beyond any doubt, that you have been or are being lied to, you can then proceed to deal with it.

Look for Patterns in The Person’s Lies

This is done in an attempt to understand why the person is lying to you. It is easier to deal with when you can identify why the person is lying to you. However, if after some analysis it seems to you that the person is lying for no reason, then there is a bigger problem at hand – you are possibly dealing with a compulsive or pathological liar. If you are not careful, the person’s lies can distort your reality to the point where you actually begin to believe the lies might be true.

Determine if the Person’s Lies Are Harmful

Truth is there is no such thing as a harmless lie, but some lies are more harmful than others. You need to figure out how the lies affect you, the person lying and others that might be involved. Is the person lying to protect, escape the consequence of an error, or manipulate? More importantly, are the lies manipulating you into making decisions or acting in ways that are unlike you or your personality?

Decide Whether or Not to Confront the Liar

This is a personal choice. After you are sure, beyond reasonable doubt, that you have been lied to, you need to sit down, think and decide on your course of action. Determine the better alternative between confronting the liar and keeping to yourself the fact that you know the truth. You can keep it to yourself to inform your future decisions concerning the liar and anything that has to do with the liar.

Document the Lies

This seems funny but if you neglect this you can be made the fool, especially when you confront the liar for his/her lies. You don’t have to show the documentation to anyone, it is mainly for you so you don’t lose sight of the truth. You should document the instance of the lie and why you believe it is a lie. Do some research (an objective one) to get some evidence proving the lie, you should be able to show the liar (and to some degree even yourself), without a doubt, that a lie or lies have been told.

Talk to the Person Privately

If you must confront the liar, don’t do so in public. That tends to have a less than desired effect and isn’t likely to help the person change. When you talk to the person, don’t be condescending or aggressive, calmly point out the person’s lie(s) with evidence and give them space to react. If the person admits the lie(s), then they are most likely remorseful. You can give the person a chance to explain the lie(s).

If the person doesn’t admit the lie after being caught with evidence, then there is a deeper problem – you are more likely dealing with a compulsive or pathological liar. You should tread carefully and wisely at this point because they are unlikely to admit the truth no matter how aggressive you get.

Prepare for Resulting Trust Issues

After being lied to, prepare for the fact that you are likely going to have difficulty trusting people again because the feeling of betrayal doesn’t fade easily. At this point, it helps to remember that there are still honest people in the world, regardless of how few they might be. Remind yourself that no one deserves to be judged by the mistakes of others – everyone deserves a chance.

Protect Yourself

Dealing with lies can be emotionally exhausting. Ensure that you don’t get wrapped up in a person’s lies again. Ensure that at every point you always have a firm grasp on the truth. If things get out of hand and you have to endure mental and psychological trauma because of a person’s lies, it advisable to distance yourself from the liar, and in more extreme cases, cut the person off completely.

6 Things You Have Forgotten How to do Because of Your Phone

African girl with Phone

You can virtually do anything and everything with your smartphone. This has made some of us forget how to do certain things that were naturally part of you. And depending on you, these things may be good or bad. Whatever the case maybe, Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency shares the things you have forgotten how to do due to your phone.

Hang Out with Friends & Family

Smartphones have obviously killed interpersonal relationships. Very few people visit their family members and friends. They prefer to chat with them on instant messaging platforms like WhatsApp, and BBM. In fact, WhatsApp groups are now created for the family. They may call sometimes.

How to Spell

Smartphones have clearly encouraged the use of shorthand that so many people don’t know how to spell anymore. Also, you don’t need to finish spelling a word before your smartphone preempts you and give you that word. So, quite a number of persons have difficulty spelling.

Learn to Take Pictures

Any phone that has an excellent and awesome camera is perfect for taking pictures. You don’t need photography skills for this purpose. Even professional photographers are now worried that there are so many quacks in the business of photography. By the way, a serious photographer will never use a smartphone as his camera.

Read a Book

How can you read a book when you are transiting from Facebook to Twitter and Instagram at the comfort of your bedroom? The reading culture has seriously declined due to the popularity of smartphones. There are eBooks that are compatible with phones which people are not even reading.

Read Maps

With Google maps, you don’t require a physical map to find your way. You won’t find maps in many homes today. So, we have forgotten how to read maps.

Do Simple Math

It is difficult today to do a simple math offhand. Why do you have to when you have a phone calculator? Therefore, it is just a waste of time calculating spontaneously.

10 Things You Do That Damage Your Hair

$

0

remedy_for_hair_damaged_by_relaxer_l4

There are plenty ways you can harm your precious strands of hair without even knowing. Here are 10 of these ways you damage it shared by Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency.

Packing Your Hair Too Tightly

Especially for females, anything too tight, particularly when done with rough elastic, can be damaging to your hair because they pull at your scalp and irritate your strands eventually causing hair breakage and damage to your roots. When packing your hair, gently pull it back with bobby pins, claws or elastic covered in fabric rather than packing too tightly.

Not Cleaning Your Styling Tools

If you fail to clean out those hairy brushes and combs, they become breeding grounds for germs and old residue. These germs and residue can irritate your scalp and clog the pores on your head. You should therefore remove hair from your brushes and combs after each styling session, and once a month clean them with a little baking soda and water to remove the oil and products that get stuck in its bristles.

Infusing Your Hair with Too Much Chemicals

Too many artificial chemicals are bad for your hair. They can cause breakage and damage to your hair, especially when done often. Try to keep chemical processes on your hair to a minimum and avoid using them often.

Heat Styling Too Often with High Heat

Excess heat strips the hair of its natural moisture, causing your hair cuticles to dry and snap off. Over time, your hair starts to look dull and starts to suffer permanent damage. To remedy this, avoid heat styling your hair at very high temperatures – don’t turn the heat all the way up. Also, try to heat style occasionally, rather than doing so on a daily basis, and avoid heat styling wet hair because wet hair is more fragile.

Perming

This weakens your hair, leaving it dull and damaged over time, your hair then starts to look brittle and dry rather than luxurious and shiny. If you cannot do without perms, avoid doing it often, only do it once awhile.

Highlights and Colouring

Over time, these change the inner structure of your hair making it look lackluster and dry, especially if they are done frequently to hide root colour or grey hair. The easy solution will be to avoid doing this often.

Excessive Brushing

Excessive brushing can cause split-ends and hair breakage because excessive brushing causes too much consistent friction for the hair to handle. Low quality brushes just make matters worse because they cause snags and tangles worsening split ends and hair breakage.

Braiding

Braiding especially when done too tightly, or on wet hair, can cause the hair to break and pull out the hair. If it is done too often, permanent hair damage can occur.

Over-Shampooing and Vigorous Hair Washing

Over-washing washes away your hair’s natural moisture making your hair dry. You can actually tell you’re over-washing your hair when it starts to look dull. This means it’s time to scale back on the washing. Also, avoid being too vigorous when washing your hair to avoid damaging your hair cuticle.

Extensions and Weaves

The effect of extensions and weaves on your hair is much like braids. They pull at the scalp eventually causing damage to the roots. The discomfort you feel on your scalp indicates their pressure on your roots. Over time, they leave the hair broken and brittle. To temper its effect, you can avoid wearing extensions and weaves for a long time. You can also make use of wigs – they make life so much easier.

Toursim Summit, Jumia Travels

A cross section of the panelist at the just concluded tourism summit in Lagos hosted by Jumia Travels

Experts in the travel and tourism industry have stated that cooperation among the major stakeholders in the industry is the panacea for growth. This was stated at the recently concluded Tourism Summit in Lagos which had the theme “Redefining the Roles of Industry Stakeholders in Shaping the 21st Century Travellers Experience”. The event was put together by Jumia Travel, Nigeria’s leading online travel agency.

Speaking at the event, Ikechi Uko, CEO of Akwaaba International Trade Fair Market said government cannot single-handedly develop the multi-billion dollars’ industry. He therefore made a call to all stakeholders within the industry to collaborate for the country to attain its goal.

Similarly, the managing director of Jumia Travel Nigeria, Kushal Dutta spoke on the potentials of the country’s tourism. In his remark, he enjoined all the key players in the industry to come together and support the government in building the sector. Kushal also pointed out that there are a lot of tourist destinations that people are choosing to spend their holiday in the country. He encouraged Nigerians to travel within Nigeria and explore the amazing tourist attractions in the country.

“80% of the travels within Nigeria is to Lagos and people are visiting places like Epe Resort, La Campagne, Whispering Palms; in Calabar, Obudu Mountain Resort is also a good tourism attraction but gets seasonal patronage. Outside Nigeria, people visit the likes of Kenya, Mauritius, South Africa, and Zanzibar,” he said.

While commenting on the most popular locations that Nigerians are flying to, the representative of Kenya Airways who was also on the panel, Abiola Bakare revealed that Nigerians mostly travel to London and US, but not necessarily for leisure. He added: “There’s also a major preference for destinations in Dubai. However, the problem of the foreign exchange greatly affected the travel and tourism industry”.

Also, popular travel blogger and founder of Social Prefect Tours, Chiamaka Obuekwe mentioned Ikogosi in Ekiti State and Olumo Rock in Abeokuta as some of the locations people are looking to travel to. “Ikogosi and Olumo rock have been the major tourist attractions because many want some kind of adventure. South West is beginning to enjoy tourism traffic because of the opportunities the region provided.”

Chiamaka advised the Nigerian government to do a lot more in promoting tourism and destination sites in the country, adding that Zanzibar and South Africa are doing a good job in promoting the tourism in their countries.

9 Things to You Should Know About Crowdfunding

Crowdfunding, Crowdfunding ideas

Crowdfunding is a form of crowdsourcing and alternative finance that basically involves funding a project or venture by raising monetary contributions from a large number of people. It allows entrepreneurs raise capital without giving up too much equity. It has over the years become an effective alternative for raising funds for business ideas. Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency, shares 9 things entrepreneurs should know about crowdfunding to take full advantage of it.

Plan

It is difficult to plan a crowdfunding campaign because you don’t know what to expect and can hardly predict the kind of reaction your campaign might get. Your campaign may or may not go viral but either way, you should be prepared to handle possible press attention and to respond to your growing community. You should be able to manage things immediately as they come up.

Choose the Right Platform

Spend time researching on the different internet-mediated registries or online platforms for crowdfunding, and choose the one that is right for you. Choose a site that fits your project and the industry you are in.

Pay Attention to the Deal

You should pay attention to the details of the terms of the platform, the percentage the platform takes and when you get the money. This is to avoid nasty surprises down the road. Pay attention to the deal of your crowdfunding platform and find the one you are comfortable with.

Think About Your Messaging

It is easier to raise money for an idea that touches a lot of people whether or not the venture is for-profit or not-for-profit. Consider the message of your campaign and think of how you can make it relevant to as many people in your target group as possible.

Learn from Others

Check out and analyze other successful crowdfunding campaigns to see and understand what worked for them and how you can apply it to your campaign. However, you should be realistic about how much of what you learn from these campaigns you can apply to yours, considering your resources. Adapt ideas in a way that fit your budget, target group and brand.

Be Prepared to Tell Your Story (Be Transparent)

You need to be authentic with your campaign and be as transparent as possible. Without these, people are less likely to respond positively to your campaign, they’ll remain skeptical and unbelieving. Be as communicative, engaging and as open with your community as possible, let them know as much as they want to know and have as much evidence as they need to believe your campaign.

Get Early Adopters

Get friends, family and people you know to invest right away. This is because people are more likely to invest when they see others investing and people tend to trust a campaign when it seems to be doing well. Investors are also likely to develop an interest to invest when they see your campaign is something the public/community are interested in and responding positively to.

Have a Strategy for Marketing

You need a consistent and persistent marketing plan that will help you reach far beyond your circles – asking two or three friends to help you repost or share your campaign isn’t enough. Research and figure out where to find the people in your target community and create eye-grabbing, heart-grabbing and convincing social media posts and ads to grab their attention, generate interest and incite a positive response to your campaign.

You can also create genuine relationships with influencers and reach out to as many of them as you can to support your cause and help you get the word out.

Crowdfunding Can Fail Very Easily

You should be prepared for this reality. You need to know when to crowdfund and when to approach other resources. Not all businesses are suited for crowdfunding. However, once you have considered these and work towards the proper execution of your crowdfunding campaign, its chances of failure are reduced.

Onwuliri further disclosed that the registration was aimed at collecting up to date data of the unemployed Nigerians in compliance with NDE’s mandate “to obtain and maintain a data bank on unemployment and vacancies in the country.”

The Deputy Director said the exercise would enable the directorate to serve as a clearing house linking job seekers with existing vacancies in government agencies and the private sector. He gave the portal’s address as: www.jobsforall.ng.

The directorate sees this initiative as a bold step toward deepening the effectiveness of its employment creation strategies and a critical input into the process of designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating programmes and schemes.

Henceforth, the portal will serve as a meeting point for job seekers and their prospective employers, adding that the initiative would go a long way to eliminate the cumbersome process of recruitment by employers of skilled labour in private and public sectors.
